NCHS has a large collection of interesting and often rare local artifacts, large and small, that date from before colonization into the twentieth century. These items have been donated by local residents, or in some cases, descendants of local residents. They all are part of local history and many have interesting stories attached to them. Our catalog lists about 1,500 items.
Most of the artifacts are on display in the Museum and there are also displays in the Library. In some instances, the display cases themselves are artifacts. Throughout the building, there are framed maps, plats, deeds, artwork, etc. on the walls. Even the entry hall, Board Room, and Presentation Room are decorated with antique furnishings and embellished with antique china and glassware.
